Scott Hetrick
Scott Hetrick’s interest in vocal performance began at an early age while singing
in churches and schools. His formal training began in 1968 while singing in junior
high school choirs and performing lead solo roles in school musicals. This continued
into high school with lead roles in musicals such as West Side Story, Bye-Bye Birdie
and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. At Judson College his vocal
career continued as a member of a touring group called Love’s Reflection; singing
all across the United States and Europe. His private study in the classics continued
at the University of Southern Mississippi. While at USM he was honored with an Opera
Performance Scholarship and performed several lead roles in La Traviata, The Magic
Flute, The Marriage of Figaro, Amal and the Night Visitors, The Mikado, H.M.S Pinafore
and several others. Scott also toured Africa and South America with a performing
group from the Southern Baptist Convention. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts from
USM in 1982 and has since shared his vocal talents in many Austin churches by leading
worship, conducting choirs and orchestras and performing frequent solos. His last
live performance was with the Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Austin singing a lead
role in Trial by Jury. Scott is currently teaching voice at the TxFAA and is working
on establishing a community choir and a children’s choir. He recently was instrumental
in starting the theatre department at the academy with a performance of three short
plays starring 12 young actors and actresses. Since then the theatre classes have
expanded to the Home School Program and Scott has passed the instruction over to
some talented new instructors.
